Hurricane Katrina changed the Gulf Coast landscape and face of its culture when it hit in 2005. Hurricane Katrina hits the Florida coast as a Category 1 with winds at 80 mph.Katrina hits land as a Category 3 on the gulf coast.Levee breaches, leaves a big hole in the super dome where people were taking shelter.80% of New Orleans is covered in water as high as 20 feet.

They are men, women and children fleeing war, persecution and political upheaval. They are uprooted with little warning, enduring great hardship during their flight. They become refugees when they cross borders and seek safety in another country. They are displaced when they are forced to flee their homes, but remain within the borders of their native country.The 1951 United Nations Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, as amended by its 1967 protocol defines a refugee as a person who "owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality, and is unable to or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country..."
